'Frank Lundahl and the Quad Cities' Nov. 18-Feb.12

The 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ Teaching Museum of Art will present work by a local artist in "A Place Called Home: Frank Lundahl and the Quad Cities" Nov. 18, 2015–Feb. 12, 2016. Lundahl (1858-1932) was a Swedish-American artist born in Rock Island. A painter of interior murals by trade, his works in 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@'s collection focus on the world around him, calling attention to the everyday beauty of the region.

Journalism student works at Next Generation Radio

Multimedia journalism major Ben Payne '18 spent a week in Minneapolis at the Next Generation Radio project from Oct. 19-24. Payne learned the importance of collaboration in the newsroom and through social media. "I found my people" in public radio, Payne writes in his blog recap.

Wielenga '16 nails professor role in 'Bingo'

Senior Josh Wielenga "brings an honest maturity and decency" to his role as a college professor in a local theatre's production of "Bingo." The comedy is being staged by Richmond Hill players in nearby Geneseo, Ill., and runs through the weekend.

Dr. Christopher Whitt, associate professor of political science, presents a Frieze Lecture on D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" and how racism in entertainment shapes politics. John Henry Hauberg was a researcher and photographer active in the Quad-City area in the early 20th century. He compiled some 150 unpublished volumes of Illinois history over the course of his life. This project will target 1,500 of the most historically significant glass plate images related to Native American culture and landscapes, Quad-Cities scenes, the Rock Island Arsenal, Black Hawk State Historic Site, and the Denkmann-Hauberg West End Settlement in Rock Island.

Tea Series: Tony Pomales, anthropology

Dr. Tony Pomales, teaching fellow of the department of anthropology, spoke at the Tea Series about “In/visibility and belonging in Costa Rica: From the vantage point of older women sex workers on the margins of San José Centro.”

365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ has selected Kirk Anderson, CPA, as the college's new chief financial officer and vice president for finance and administration. Anderson currently is an associate director of procurement finance at Kraft-Heinz Foods in Northfield, Ill. Anderson will assume his new role at 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ in December.

Lecture to address immigrant backlash in a nation of immigrants

Dr. Peter Kivisto, Richard A. Swanson Professor of Social Thought at 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@, will give the annual O. Fritiof Ander Lecture in Immigration History on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Hanson 102. In his talk, "Immigrant Backlash in the Nation of Immigrants," Dr. Kivisto will discuss immigration patterns to the United States during the past 50 years, and the present tension between immigrants.
