Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology requirements

There are three time periods when students can apply to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program:

Regular Admission for college seniors who are pursuing a bachelor's degree or an applicant who has already completed a bachelor's degree.

Junior Year Admission for current 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ CSD majors in their junior year in the program.

Direct Admission for high school seniors who plan to receive their B.A. from 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@.

The processes and requirements for the three types of applications follow.

Regular Admission

Students with a bachelor’s degree may apply for 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@’s MS-SLP program using the Centralized Application Service for Communication Sciences and Disorders Program (CSDCAS).

Application requirements

Bachelor’s degree completed prior to enrolling in our MS-SLP Program, which begins in June each year.
Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0
Successful completion of the following CSD, or equivalent, courses:

  • Anatomy, Physiology, and Science of Speech
  • Anatomy, Physiology, and Science of Hearing
  • Phonetics
  • Speech and Language Development
  • Audiology

Completion of CSD-supporting courses, or equivalent:

  • Biology (human or animal focused)
  • Social science course (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, or Anthropology)
  • Statistics
  • Physics or Chemistry

The following courses are recommended, but not required for admission: aural rehabilitation, linguistics, introduction to communication sciences and disorders, neural bases of human communication.

Letters of recommendation submitted through CSDCAS

Meet all items on 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@'s Essential Functions checklist completed prior to enrollment.

Submit a personal statement on CSDCAS that explains your reasons for pursuing graduate study in speech-language pathology and the experiences you've had that have prepared you for this goal.

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required for admission.

Junior-Year Admission

This option is for 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ CSD majors in their junior year, who, if admitted, enroll into the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program after earning their B.A. at 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@.

Junior-year admission students apply during the spring semester of junior year and then in the fall of senior year, submit a final application through CSDCAS.

Criteria:

Minimum overall college GPA of 3.0
Meet all items on the Essential Functions checklist
Submit 400-word essay: How is your 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ education preparing you for a vocation in speech-language pathology?

To maintain junior admission, students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

Direct Admission

This option is for high school seniors who are interested in securing a spot in in 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@’s MS-SLP program after they earn a B.A degree at 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@.  

Apply through 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@'s Application System during senior year of high school and then in the fall of their undergraduate senior year, submit application through CSDCAS.

Application process:

Students must first be accepted into 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@.

Students inform 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@'s Office of Admissions that they would like to be considered as a direct admit student into the Master's in Speech-Language Pathology program if they receive no grade below a B- in any science class.

To maintain direct admission status, students must throughout their undergraduate program at 365体育投注_365体育备用网址@ must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
